SA Libs staffer to contest Fisher poll

Liberal staffer Heidi Harris has been preselected as the party's candidate for the upcoming Fisher by-election in South Australia.

Ms Harris, a mother of two and adviser to Liberal MP Duncan McFetridge, edged out five other candidates for the seat, which the Liberals are tipped to win.

SA Liberal leader Steven Marshall said Ms Harris had an exceptional CV and strong ties to the local community.

Anti-violence campaigner Nat Cook will contest the December 6 by-election for Labor.

The by-election was sparked by the death of independent MP Bob Such, who held the seat of Fisher since 1989.

Dr Such died on October 11 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour six months ago.
