SA Liberal Party State Director quits

South Australia's Liberal Party State Director Geoffrey Greene has quit his job to move into the private sector.

Mr Greene's resignation is effective immediately, the party's State President Robert Lawson and Opposition leader Steven Marshall said in a statement on Tuesday.

The move follows the Opposition's surprise loss in last year's state election and in the Fisher electorate by-election.

Mr Lawson said Mr Greene, who took up the job in December 2012, led the party through a very successful federal election campaign that returned the seat of Hindmarsh to the Liberals.

"Geoffrey Greene ran an excellent federal election campaign and, while we were unable to win the state election, led the party to its best result in 21 years, winning 53 per cent of the state-wide two-party preferred vote," Mr Lawson said.

Mr Marshall said Mr Greene's contribution to the Liberal Party would be missed.

"Geoffrey leaves us in a far stronger position than when he arrived and he leaves with our best wishes for his future in the private sector," he said.
