The South Australian government is offering entrepreneurs $250,000 to help make Adelaide the world's first carbon-neutral city.

The low-carbon contest is open to Australian and international entrepreneurs but the winner must partner with an SA organisation to deliver greener transport, energy or waste technology.

"This funding will help entrepreneurs flesh out their ideas, create prototypes and help get their ideas to market," Premier Jay Weatherill said on Wednesday.
