South Australia's jobless rate has dipped below seven per cent, but it remains the highest in the nation.

Employment Minister Kyam Maher says the state is undergoing a significant economic transition with traditional industries in decline.

But he says other sectors, including defence, food and disability services, are forecast to grow rapidly.

Latest figures show unemployment in SA fell to 6.9 per cent in May, from 7.3 per cent the previous month.

Opposition employment spokesman Corey Wingard highlighted the state government's failure in creating jobs.

"The Labor government isn't working, is out of answers, and isn't delivering for the tens of thousands of South Australians looking for work," he said.
