SA growers urge govt to allow GM seeds

South Australian grain growers will petition the state government for the right to grow genetically-modified crops.

Farmers want to be able to grow GM canola, but can't because of SA's moratorium on genetically-modified produce, Grain Producers SA chief executive Darren Arney says.

"Our members are becoming increasingly frustrated that they do not have the same freedom of choice...their interstate counterparts have," he said on Tuesday. SA's moratorium on GM crop production will remain in place until at least September 2019.
