More than 100 South Australian businesses will learn how they can share in $1.2 billion in state government and private funds to renew public housing sites across the state.

The government will detail the pipeline of work at a briefing for local companies on Thursday.

The work is expected to support 1600 jobs over the next five years and includes the renewal of 4500 Housing Trust properties within 10 kilometres of the Adelaide CBD.

It includes the government's 1000 Homes in 1000 Days project announced in December's mid-year budget review.

"These projects are part of the government's commitment to accelerate urban renewal, increase housing supply and provide a jobs and investment boost to the construction and community housing sectors in South Australia," Housing and Urban Development Minister Stephen Mullighan said.

"They will also have an extraordinary social impact by renewing our public housing to offer more choice, better homes and better-connected communities in South Australia."
