SA govt plans crack down on lobbyists

South Australia will join other states in banning lobbyists from charging success fees, the premier says.

Premier Jay Weatherill told parliament on Tuesday the government would introduce legislation to regulate the conduct of lobbyists.

While details were still being fleshed out, Mr Weatherill said the government had taken an in-principle decision to ban success fees.

Success fees have already been banned in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

The changes follow recommendations by the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption, Bruce Lander, who warned there was "an unacceptable risk of unscrupulous behaviour being undetected".

The government will also address concerns about the use of private email accounts and anonymous social media handles by public servants.

In his first annual report earlier this month, the Commissioner warned ministerial staffers could be prosecuted for using personal email accounts to convey official information.
