South Australia is sending an emergency services team to assess the damage in flood-ravaged northern NSW.

The team, comprising 21 damage assessment specialists from the SES, police and fire services, will land in Coolangatta on Sunday morning, SASES said on Saturday night.

The deployment will be based in the Richmond Tweed area and will assist NSW SES as it responds to significant flooding and property damage resulting from the category four storm in the northern parts of the state.

"The team will help record the location and severity of damage to buildings, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure such as schools and hospitals and sewerage systems," the SASES said in a statement.
