SA court siege man in more strife

A man involved in a dramatic incident in an Adelaide court almost 20 years ago, when he held an official at knifepoint, has now pleaded guilty to dishonesty offences.

Wayne Noel Maddeford appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday where he admitted to two counts of dishonestly producing documents he knew to be fake in order to secure employment.

Maddeford admitted to both offences, which occurred in 2014 and 2015, and will appear in the District Court for sentence in February.

In September 1999, the now 51-year-old had just been sentenced over an armed robbery when he jumped out of the dock and grabbed a court stenographer, holding her a knifepoint in a tense situation that lasted for several hours.

The incident prompted a review of court security measures, including the introduction of metal detectors at all entrances.
