SA college mourns teen crash victim

A college will hold a minute's silence to remember a 16-year-old student who died, along with her brother, mother and grandmother, in a crash in southeast South Australia.

Mount Gambier's Independent Learning Centre manager David Burt said Jessica Doyle was a friendly, quiet-achiever who was much-loved.

He said a minute's silence will be held at the centre's graduation ceremony on Wednesday to remember Jess.

"Jess enrolled here a year ago and was initially involved in hair and beauty training," he told AAP.

"When her parents purchased the restaurant in Robe, she made an enthusiastic career change into hospitality."

The graduation would celebrate the achievements of some students, but would be "tinged with sadness over this horrible event", he said.

Jessica, her brother Josh, 22, their mother Michelle, 45, and grandmother Bev Khan, 68, died when their four-wheel drive was hit after a truck and a utility collided on Monday in the town of Hatherleigh, just north of Millicent.

A fifth person in the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Josh Doyle ran the Waves restaurant at Robe, about 65km from Hatherleigh, with the help of his family who lived in Mount Gambier.

His grandmother lived in Victoria.

The driver of the ute, a 64-year-old man from the South-East, has been charged with four counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing harm by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed to appear in the Mount Gambier magistrates court on January 20.
