Mistrial declared in SA carer assault case

A mistrial has been declared in the case of an Adelaide aged-care worker accused of assaulting an elderly resident.

Michael Andrew Mullen, 54, appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday after pleading not guilty to aggravated assault causing harm.

The court heard he attacked 72-year-old Elizabeth Hannaford at Southern Cross Care's Lourdes Valley Residential Care Centre in November 2015. She died in hospital in February, 2016.

The prosecutor's opening was heard and two witnesses called before magistrate Elizabeth Sheppard declared a mistrial.
