Recognise push continues in Adelaide

South Australian leaders, community groups and young people will be urged to sign on to the Recognise movement at the launch of National Reconciliation Week in Adelaide.

About 1300 people will attend a special breakfast on Friday where they will be invited to join the push to have Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people recognised in the constitution.

"There is a growing commitment in our state to honour and acknowledge the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories in our nation's history and future," Reconciliation South Australia chairman Peter Buckskin said.

Professor Buckskin said for many young Australians, constitutional recognition was not an abstract, political issue.

"Australia's youth is a strong voice in the conversation about our nation's future and should be listened to as they will mould the next steps in reconciliation," he said.
