Police unveil high-tech firearms simulator

SA Police have unveiled a new 300-degree virtual reality simulator to improve firearms training for new recruits.

The simulator provides realistic 3D audio and special effects to hone the judgment, decision making and tactics of police officers.

"The system uses a range of screens and scenarios to train police to handle real-world situations as well testing factors such as communication skills, de-escalation and appropriate responses," Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams said.
