Police car pummelled with rocks, bottles

Four people have been charged after a police patrol car was pummelled with rocks and bottles during an altercation at Murray Bridge, east of Adelaide.

Police were called to a home over reports of a large gathering early on Friday and found about 20 people who soon became aggressive.

Officers were forced to use capsicum spray to keep the group at bay but retreated when a number of individuals started throwing bottles.

"To avoid injury the patrols had to abandon a police car in the street, which was subsequently damaged by the group throwing rocks and bottles at the vehicle," police said in a statement.

The car was eventually retrieved, with the front windscreen shattered by a large rock, a rear window smashed and side panels damaged.

Later on Friday, police returned to the property arresting four people.

Two men, aged 24 and 25, and an 18-year-old woman, were charged with aggravated affray.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with aggravated affray, property damage and two counts of throwing missiles

All four were also issued $1000 fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions related to the gathering of more than 10 people.
