Submissions delayed in nurse killer case

A lack of available court space has forced a delay in final sentencing submissions for the man who killed outback nurse Gayle Woodford.

Dudley Davey has pleaded guilty to the murder of Ms Woodford in March last year.

The 56-year-old's body was found in a shallow grave at Fregon, in South Australia's north, where she had worked in the local health centre.

Davey's case returned to court on Friday for a victim impact statement to be presented on behalf of the Fregon community.

But Justice Ann Vanstone said a problem with the availability of courtrooms would prevent the hearing going ahead.

She set down June 5 as the new date for final submissions and apologised to Ms Woodford's relatives and friends who had travelled to attend the hearing.

In earlier submissions to the court, Ms Woodford's husband Keith called for Davey never to be released.

He said he feared the killer would just offend again.

"I beg this court never to let Dudley Davey out again," Mr Woodford said in his victim impact statement.
