Nothing to hide on contamination: Hunter

South Australia's environment minister has been accused of dodging questions on groundwater contamination in Adelaide's suburbs.

Ian Hunter appeared before a budget estimates hearing on Monday, with a session devoted to questions relating to the Environment Protection Authority.

The EPA is testing for groundwater and air contamination in Clovelly Park and Mitchell Park after elevated levels of trichloroethylene (TCE) were detected.

TCE can be carcinogenic at high levels over an extended period.

Opposition leader Steven Marshall expressed frustration at the minister's opening statement to the 30-minute session, saying it left inadequate time for questions.

"We had 14 minutes to start with for a toilet break for the opening statement by the minister," Mr Marshall said.

"There's probably no issue of any greater interest to the people of South Australia."

Premier Jay Weatherill last week conceded the government's communication had been poor, with some Clovelly Park residents learning through the media that they would be relocated.

But Mr Hunter said the government had addressed residents' concerns at a well-attended public meeting on Sunday.

"The government has absolutely nothing to hide," he said.
