'No closure' for Khandalyce's family

The devastated family of murdered toddler Khandalyce Pearce have welcomed the arrest of her alleged killer.

Daniel James Holdom, 41, was charged on Tuesday with murdering the two-year-old, whose remains were found in a suitcase dumped on a South Australian highway near Wynarka, east of Adelaide, in July.

Police allege Holdom killed the toddler days after killing her 20-year-old mother, Karlie Pearce-Stevenson.

SA Victims' Rights Commissioner, Michael O'Connell, read a statement on behalf of Khandalyce's family on Tuesday.

"This is very much welcome news," the statement said.

"It is welcome because those who loved Khandalyce want her killer called to account for such a despicable crime."

Police broke the news on Tuesday to Khandalyce's grandfather, who had feared that a child killer remained at large and could strike again.

The family were thankful for the chance to learn what happened to Khandalyce but would never recover from the trauma of her death, Mr O'Connell said.

"Nothing has prepared these people for their suffering," he told reporters.

"For them, nothing will ever be the same. This will never bring closure to them. It is a sentence for life."
