Australia's new fleet of maritime patrol and response aircraft will be maintained in South Australia, Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne says.

Mr Pyne says more than 35 jobs will be created in SA through the upkeep of the new P-8A Poseidon planes, due to start arriving in Australia from November.

The federal government has committed to buying 15 of the new Boeing planes to help replace an existing Royal Australian Air Force fleet.
