SA murder target judge names suppressed

The identities of two South Australian judges who were allegedly targets of a murder plot have been temporarily suppressed by a magistrate.

Frederick Bernard Walkuski, 63, and Hendrik Gysbertus Van Schaik, 42, have been charged with plotting to murder the two judges, destroy their homes and also the home of a senior police officer.

Van Schaik appeared in Murray Bridge magistrates court via videolink on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear in Adelaide magistrates court on October 14.

His co-accused is expected to appear via phone or videolink later on Monday.

The Murray Bridge men are charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to commit arson on a home thereby endangering life.

Magistrate Teresa Anderson agreed to impose a temporary suppression order on the names of the alleged victims to give them time to alert families and friends.

Police have alleged the offences were motivated by retribution and that Walkuski offered to pay Van Schaik to carry out the crimes.
