Man survives after being bitten by eastern brown snake

An Adelaide man has had a lucky escape after being bitten by a deadly eastern brown snake while gardening yesterday.

Angelo Librindi, a grower from Angle Vale, was digging with a shovel when he felt something bite his hand.

“I thought, ‘well, what was that’. I didn’t know, so I kept digging,” Mr Librindi said.

Continuing to dig, he unearthed the snake and accidentally chopped it in half.

He quickly realised the severity of the snake’s bite.

“The only thing that went through my head was my family,” he said.

Mr Librindi said he began to feel light-headed and experience blurred vision as he waited 26 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

He was treated overnight in hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

Corey Renton, from Snake Away Services, said while South Australia is experiencing chilly winter conditions, it hasn’t stopped them from catching deadly snakes almost daily.

“Even though it is a juvenile, it is still as deadly as the adults,” Mr Renton told 9NEWS.

He warned people not to try and handle the snake themselves.

Eastern brown snakes are considered among the world’s most venomous land snakes.
