Man in court over SA policeman's assault

A man will face an Adelaide court charged with assaulting a policeman who was arresting him.

The 31-year-old officer was punched several times on Wednesday, suffering cuts and grazes to his head, but managed to hold his assailant until reinforcements arrived, police said.

A Highbury man, 39, was charged with resisting police, aggravated assault causing harm and threatening to kill.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The officer is in a stable condition in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
