A 25-year-old man has not applied for bail during a brief court appearance charged with murdering an Adelaide man who was punched, kicked and stomped on by three attackers in January.

Police arrested Joshua Grant early on Thursday as 50 officers conducted raids on six properties in the city's northern suburbs.

He fronted the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday charged with the murder of 36-year-old Mark Boyce and was remanded in custody to return to court in January.

After Grant's arrest, Detective Superintendent Des Bray said the investigation of the killing of Mr Boyce had been challenging.

"While one man has been charged, there remains a significant amount of work to be done by detectives to build a brief of evidence against the other offenders who took part in the attack," he said.

Police previously alleged Mr Boyce was chased through a street at Elizabeth South and held down by a man with a cast on his arm until two other men arrived.

He died in hospital a week after the bashing.
