Man faces drowning murder retrial in SA

The case of an Adelaide man who spent almost two decades in jail for drowning his fiancee will be back in court next month.

Henry Victor Keogh, now 59, was jailed for at least 25 years after being convicted of murdering Anna-Jane Cheney, 29, in the bath tub of their Adelaide home in March 1994.

His murder conviction was set aside last December, when the Court of Criminal Appeal ordered him to face a retrial and he was released on bail.

Last month, he again pleaded not guilty in the South Australian Supreme Court to the murder.

The case was listed for a closed-court directions hearing on Friday, after which the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Adam Kimber SC issued a statement saying a further hearing will be held on April 21.

There has been speculation about whether the DPP will proceed with the retrial.
