Man escapes after truck catches fire in SA

A truck driver has escaped uninjured after his B-Double caught fire in Adelaide's north.

The man, identified as Ken, said the "turbo caught fire and the whole truck just went 'boom'" during the incident at Manningham on Thursday morning.

"When it started... I panicked and flew out the blooming door," he told ABC radio.

There were major traffic delays as roads around the area closed for much of the morning, the Metropolitan Fire Service said.

The blaze caused about $450,000 in damage but firefighters managed to save parts of the truck and contents worth about $360,000.

They also stopped about 3000 litres of diesel and contaminated water from entering the city's storm water system.
