Man dies after hitting tree in SA

A man has died after his car hit a tree on South Australia's Mallee Highway.

Police say they were alerted at 8.15pm on Saturday to the crash near Peake, about 150km east of Adelaide.

The man, who was the only occupant of the car, died at the scene.

The death takes the state's road toll to 38 compared with 37 at the same time last year.
