SA meth haul accused linked to bikies

An Adelaide man with ties to the Hells Angels bikie gang has been arrested over the alleged trafficking of $40 million worth of methamphetamine from Indonesia.

Police say the 60kg haul, intercepted in Adelaide in late December, was concealed in cardboard boxes within a container of stone flooring and tiling products.

The drugs were seized and replaced with an inert substance before police conducted a controlled delivery to the original address.

It's alleged the package was received by a 43-year-old Flinders Park man at a business facility in Adelaide's west.

He was charged with importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs and was expected to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.

The arrest followed a tip-off from Indonesian authorities which sparked a joint investigation by the Australian Federal Police, Australian Border Force and South Australian police.

SA Police are also investigating the discovery of 10kg of cannabis, chemicals and clandestine laboratory equipment at a storage facility in Royal Park.

AFP state manager Peter Sykora said the methamphetamine haul was one of the biggest ever to arrive in South Australia.

He said authorities were fighting an uphill battle to stem the flow of drugs arriving in Australia.

"Demand for narcotics here in Australia is almost insatiable," he told reporters.

"It's a very lucrative market for the organised crime syndicates. From our perspective ... we are chasing down all people responsible for this importation and any further importations."
