Man accused of Adelaide abduction freed on home detention
A man accused of trying to abduct a young girl as she walked home from a park in Adelaide’s north with her grandparents has been released on home detention.
Barry Peter Smith, 18, has been behind bars for more than a week after he allegedly abducted the seven-year-old in Paralowie on October 5.
The alleged attempted saw officers make an arrest the following night. 9News
Two strangers stepped in to help and the girl was left to return to her grandparents.
The teenager was arrested the following day and charged with abduction of a child.
The magistrate on Wednesday afternoon granted him home detention bail despite the prosecution previously arguing he was a serious risk to the community.
The court heard the 18-year-old admitted to snatching the girl as she walked home near Fairbanks Drive Reserve.
