Major greyhound sponsor pulls support

The fallout from shocking revelations of live baiting in the greyhound racing industry has continued, with major sponsor Macro Meats withdrawing its financial backing.

An ABC TV investigation aired on Monday showed some trainers in Queensland, NSW and Victoria are illegally blooding their dogs with live piglets, rabbits and possums.

The Adelaide-based meats provider has pulled its "substantial" sponsorship of greyhound racing across the nation in light of the scandal.

Managing director Ray Borda, who owns and breeds greyhounds, says he was devastated by the revelations and it was an easy decision to withdraw support.

"I'm still feeling shocked and saddened by it," he told AAP on Thursday.

"The night that I saw it, I didn't sleep. I was hoping I could wake up and it was just a bad dream.

"Greyhounds are just lovely animals. Most greyhound people are good people."

Mr Borda said he'd been assured by all of his trainers that they had never practised live baiting but he wasn't sure whether he would remain involved in the industry.

"At the moment I would feel that I don't really want to be involved, but I know I'm just speaking from emotion," he said.

"My gauge will be when the RSPCA are happy with the changes. I've got a lot of respect for them."

NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant on Thursday stood down the board of Greyhound Racing NSW, describing the practice of live baiting as "horrifying".
