Liberals on the slide in SA poll

The South Australian Liberal government's fortunes have taken a dive with a new poll suggesting they could lose the 2022 state election.

At the midway point of their first term, support for the Liberals has tumbled and they now trail Labor 53 to 47 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.

At the time of the last election in 2018, the Liberals won almost 52 per cent of the two-party vote.

Primary support for the Liberals came in at 39 per cent compared with 38 per cent for Labor.

Steven Marshall remains the preferred premier but by only two per cent over Labor leader Peter Malinauskas.

The Advertiser's poll in March last year showed Mr Marshall was the preferred premier by a healthy margin of 20 per cent.

The Advertiser-YouGov poll was conducted over six days this month with 856 voters quizzed.
