Holden's last locally built Commodore will be put to the test in South Australia's Barossa Valley after the company revealed the new car three weeks ago.

Australia's motoring media will get behind the wheel for the first time on Wednesday as they test the most powerful Commodore ever.

But lead development engineer Amelinda Watt says before it was launched the VFII had already been subjected to extensive real world driving by Holden engineers.

"We've tested this car over approximately 250,000 kilometres in a range of environments, from Victoria's Alpine ranges to the Great Ocean Road, to ensure it performs to the high standards Commodore drivers expect," she said.
