Kayaker stranded in Rapid Bay, found clinging to jetty

A man is in hospital after being rescued from the sea south of Adelaide.

The incident occurred at Rapid Bay, where man fell from a kayak and was stranded in the water.

9News cameras were there as the man, aged in his sixties, was pulled from the water by rescue crews.

Witnesses said he was in the water for up to an hour and was found clinging to the old jetty.

Once retrieved, he was taken to shore at nearby Wirrina Cove, and examined by paramedics.

The man was then taken to Victor Harbor Hospital for further assessment.

There were early reports, he may have been suffering hypothermia, however, South Australia Ambulance Service staff later said his condition was not life-threatening.

Police have confirmed he was wearing a life jacket at the time, which may have saved his life.
