Illegal SA fish sales caught out online

Recreational fishers selling their catches on social media aren't making any new friends with the South Australian government.

Fisheries minister Leon Bignell has warned that selling fish online without a commercial fishing licence is illegal and those breaking the law will be caught.

"While some fishers may be unaware this behaviour is illegal, at the other end of the spectrum are organised groups who do not have commercial fishing licences and deliberately fish under the recreational banner for the purpose of selling stock," Mr Bignell said on Sunday.

He said over the past 12 months several search warrants have been executed, with the most recent being in the past week.

Examples of sales include bloodworms, frozen snapper and cuttlefish bone - with a starting price of $10.
