Holden's SA assembly line to lay idle

Holden's car assembly operations in Adelaide will lay idle after the latest cut to its workforce and a move to slash vehicle production.

On Thursday the company made 270 workers redundant ahead of the complete closure of its manufacturing operations in 2017.

About 80 of those were forced redundancies, something the company has described as a "very difficult process".

Friday is a rostered shut-down day for the company before production numbers are cut on Monday.

The company is reducing its vehicle build rate from 290 to 240 a day to bring volumes in line with sales.
