Gut-wrenching plea for SA road safety

A gut-wrenching video is at the heart of a South Australian police campaign imploring motorists to take care on the roads this Christmas.

Six families have revealed their devastation at the prospect of another holiday season without their partners, children and siblings ahead of a police campaign targeting risky behaviour on our roads.

"We must never forget that road fatalities are not statistics," deputy commissioner Linda Williams said ahead of the campaign, which begins on Friday and runs throughout January.

"They are someone's mother or father, son or daughter. Real lives cut short.

"We make no apology for continuing to target speeding, mobile phone use, seatbelt compliance, drink and drug driving, fatigue and dangerous road users."

Over the past five years, 90 motorists have died on SA's roads between December and January.

Among those featured in the video were Katie Kneebone whose 18-year-old sister Molly was killed in 2013.

Kym Inglis lost his 40-year-old wife Melania, and daughters Logan and Claudia, aged 7 and 10, in January 2010.
