‘Active ageing’: SA government grant used on male strippers at seniors festival

An Adelaide event aimed at promoting positive ageing has reportedly used a government grant in a novel way – paying for the hiring of male strippers.

The 2012 “FUNtober” festival held an event billed as an Aussie Hunks Stripper Entertainment Evening, News Corp reports.

To help stage the event in the Adelaide Hills, a $250 Council of the Ageing grant was formally applied for and signed off on after it “ticked all the boxes.”

“I don’t have a problem in justifying this particular one because it really did tick the criteria of what active ageing is,” COTA SA general manager Rosetta Rosa said.

“Sexuality is something most people don’t like to talk about ... this is a perfect example that older people are doing stuff.”

The event was promoted as “something to give back to the ladies of our community.”

“There’s no problem in brides getting strippers so why can’t these women get together and do something for them?” Ms Rosa said.

“It really challenges people’s thinking. I think it’s great and we are hoping to get similar applications this year.”
