GetUp launching in SA to hit Xenophon hard

Progressive advocacy group GetUp is setting down roots in Adelaide to hold South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon to account for his decisions.

GetUp says the senator has betrayed SA voters by cutting a deal to support the federal government's $24 billion corporate tax cut.

The group says it plans to build electoral power in the senator's home state to cause him and his party "real pain at the ballot box".

"We're going to ensure that the next time Senator Xenophon thinks about cutting a deal, he can expect a people-powered reckoning on his home turf," GetUp's economic fairness campaign director Natalie O'Brien said.

The organisation, headquartered in Sydney, said it will recruit at least one full-time SA organiser and build an Adelaide-based volunteer team.

It is also rolling out an advertising campaign that it said will highlight Senator Xenophon's "corporate tax sellout" through online ads, robocalls and billboards.

"By supporting the Turnbull government's 'trickle-down' corporate tax cut Nick Xenophon and his team have ripped $24 billion from local schools and hospitals - and SA voters deserve to know the truth," Ms O'Brien said.
