Two Belgian tourists have been found after going missing during a hike in South Australia's northern Flinders Ranges.

The couple, a 62-year-old man and 63-year-old woman, have returned to the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary from which they had set off on Sunday afternoon for a three-hour hike.

Police say the duo became disoriented during the hike close to sunset and built a shelter, where they spent the night.

In the morning, they set off for higher ground and were spotted at about 10.30am by a search plane, part of the crew who had been searching for them since first light on Monday.

The tourists returned to the sanctuary soon after and police say they are well.
