Former union official to face more charges

A former South Australian and Tasmanian union official is set to face more dishonesty charges after appearing in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Stephen Brennan, who served as secretary of the South Australian and Tasmanian branch of the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union, has been charged with 22 counts of falsifying accounts and 28 counts of dishonestly dealing with documents.

But the court was told on Tuesday that prosecutors expected to lay more charges against the 49-year-old.

Brennan served as union secretary from 1995 to 2006. The offences allegedly occurred while he was in that position.

He was later appointed employee ombudsman in South Australia but took leave from that job when the allegations against him were raised.

The ombudsman's office was abolished by the state government earlier this year.

Brennan's case will come before the court again on August 4.
