Former SA coach facing 109 drug offences

A former country football coach from South Australia's Riverland has been charged with more than 100 counts of drug trafficking.

Arrod Steven Westley, former coach of the Lyrup Lions and Paringa Swans in the Riverland Football League, appeared in Berri Magistrates Court on Monday charged with 109 counts of trafficking a controlled drug.

The 30-year-old allegedly committed the offences in Lyrup, Renmark, Berri and Winkie between July and September this year.

Westley, from Renmark, was also charged with cultivating a controlled plant and possessing prescribed equipment.

He was arrested after police found 10 grams of methamphetamine in a car he was in on Old Sturt Highway last Friday.

Paringa Football Club player Jonathon Peter Wood, 27, has also been charged following the incident.

Wood, from Renmark, is facing one count of drug trafficking and secured bail last week.

Westley was remanded in custody to return to Berri Magistrates Court for a bail application on October 27.
