First budget commitment from SA govt

Funding to build eight artificial pitches and upgrade soccer club facilities across Adelaide has been announced by the South Australian government.

The $10 million commitment will be included in next month's state budget in response to calls from the Football Federation of South Australia for increased support to meet the growing interest in the sport, especially among women.

"Our football clubs need facilities to meet this growing demand," Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis said on Saturday.

"We want to do everything we can to encourage South Australia's young people to be fit, active and social and investing in facilities at sporting clubs is one of the best ways we can do this."
