Final SA nuclear findings due within days

The final report of South Australia's nuclear royal commission will be released next week, Premier Jay Weatherill says.

Royal Commissioner Kevin Scarce will on Friday deliver the report to Governor Hieu Van Le, who will then hand it over to the state government.

The report will be released to the public on Monday afternoon once Mr Scarce has briefed state cabinet.

It is expected to recommend SA hosts the world's high-level nuclear waste, in line with tentative findings released in February.

Mr Weatherill said the report would be the starting point in a public debate about whether SA should become more involved in the nuclear fuel cycle.

"The government is committed to ensuring all South Australians have the opportunity to consider the commission's findings and deliberate on the issues," he said on Thursday.

"The tentative findings identified significant economic opportunities, as well as the need to consider the social, environmental and safety risks."

Mr Weatherill, who is open to the idea of SA broadening its nuclear industry, has said a decision will be made by year's end.

The royal commission found in its interim report that a high-level dump could generate more than $257 billion in revenue over its 120-year lifespan.

Anti-nuclear campaigners have argued the findings were based on dubious economics and a dump could have massive costs for the state.

The commission heard from 132 expert witnesses, including 41 from overseas, and received 170 direct responses to its tentative findings.
