Final patients moved from troubled SA home

The final two patients at the scandal-plagued Oakden nursing home in Adelaide's north will be moved on Friday.

The closure of the Clements House ward follows the June closure of two other wards after a scathing review by SA's chief psychiatrist, who uncovered rough handling of patients, an excessive use of restraints and a concerning level of injuries.

South Australian Mental Health Minister Peter Malinauskas says the process of decommissioning the site will begin next week.

"These residents are some of our state's most vulnerable people, and deserve to have safe, modern and appropriate mental health care facilities," Mr Malinauskas said.

In line with the recommendations of the chief psychiatrist's report a study is currently underway to determine the site and design of a new $14.7 million aged mental health care facility, the minister said.
