Ex-tropical cyclone rain lashes SA

Ex-tropical cyclone Stan has dumped heavy rain across South Australia, flooding businesses in Port Lincoln for the second time in three months.

The deluge also caused flooding in Victor Harbor and in some Adelaide suburbs as the city had its average monthly rainfall for February in just two hours.

The Bureau of Meteorology said 13mm fell in Adelaide between 7am and 9am on Tuesday while 18mm fell in Victor Harbor, causing the ceiling of a shopping mall to collapse.

In Port Lincoln, the town's CBD was flooded by 50mm of rain, with images posted on social media showing water well up the walls of many businesses and other buildings.

The town suffered a similar fate in November, forcing businesses to close and a major clean-up.

The heaviest falls across SA on Tuesday were recorded at Nullarbor, on the west coast, which had 60mm.

By 5pm the State Emergency Service said it had taken 129 calls for help, mostly to deal with leaking roofs and flooded properties.

In Adelaide the rain caused issues at the Supreme Court building with a leaking gutter forcing a judge and three associates to be relocated.

No court cases were delayed but the incident prompted the South Australian opposition to call for government action to upgrade what it said were the worst court buildings in Australia.

"Heaven help us and the judicial system when we get to winter," Deputy Opposition Leader Vickie Chapman said.

"The whole of the court system could come to a standstill unless the government acts immediately to remedy this infrastructure debacle."
