Details of alleged backpacker attack

TWO BACKPACKERS ATTACKED AT SALT CREEK CAMPING SITE:

* Two women backpackers, one from Brazil and one from Germany, travel to the Coorong in February and set up camp after using a popular website to seek a ride from Adelaide to Melbourne

* A 59-year-old Adelaide man also travels to the area

* An attack takes place

* Fishermen come across one woman, bleeding, naked and distressed

* Police find the second woman and arrest the 59-year-old man

* A court appearance on Tuesday reveals information has been taken from a mobile phone and two laptop computers seized from the man, now 60

* The man is remanded in custody to appear in court again in September

SALT CREEK AND THE COORONG NATIONAL PARK:

* Salt Creek is in the heart of the Coorong National Park about 200km southeast of Adelaide, with access from the Princes Highway.

* The park protects a string of saltwater lagoons which are sheltered from the Southern Ocean by sweeping sand dunes.

* It's a popular spot with fishermen and campers and an important archaeological site of cultural significance to the Ngarringdjeri people.
