A car was left wedged on its side between a building and a retaining wall after the driver lost control in Adelaide's southern suburbs.

The 17-year-old was trying to negotiate an intersection on Wednesday when he crashed through a fence and careered down an embankment, his Holden Commodore coming to rest on the passenger side in the narrow space between the rear of a shop and a garden retaining wall.

He was unhurt but his two 20-year-old passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
