Cops' assault case stays in lower SA court

An assault case against two serving South Australian policemen will be determined in Adelaide Magistrates Court, but not until next year.

Sean Gregory Hobbs, 30, and Andrew Allan Jaunay, 46, appeared before a magistrate on Tuesday with defence counsel indicating a move to have the matter heard in a higher court had been abandoned.

The officers have both been charged over an incident in Whyalla in 2013 which was investigated by the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption and involved an alleged assault of a 17-year-old.

At a previous hearing, counsel for Hobbs criticised the length of time it had taken to bring the allegations to court, saying the matter had been with the Director of Public Prosecutions for two years.

Hobbs has been charged with one count of aggravated assault causing harm and Jaunay with one count of aggravated assault.

Their case has been adjourned until January 9 for a pre-trial conference.
