Convicted murderer found dead in Adelaide's south weeks after she went missing

A convicted murderer has been found dead weeks after she vanished while participating in a prerelease program run by Adelaide’s Women’s Prison. 

Tara Kehoe, convicted of the brutal murder of 18-year-old Tracy Muzyk with four other teens in December, 1996, died yesterday morning of unspecified causes, The Advertiser reports. 

Police said the circumstances surrounding Kehoe’s death are not being treated as suspicious.

The 37-year-old was involved in a prerelease work program at a Northfield distribution centre in Adelaide’s south when she went missing on October 7.

Kehoe was sentenced to prison with a non-parole period of 18 years for her part in the abuse and murder of Ms Muzyk.

She was one member of a gang of five, found to have subjected Ms Muzyk to cigarette burns, boiling water and a mace spray before stabbing her with a fence post and fatally bludgeoning her with a stone.

Kehoe’s minimum term was later reduced to 15.5 years on appeal. Police had previously deemed her a low-risk prisoner soon eligible for release.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
