A small Adelaide chocolate company has been forced to change its business logo after threats of legal action from fashion brand Chanel.

The issue was sparked when Chocolate @ No.5, in Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, tried to register a trademark for its logo.

It was contacted by Chanel's lawyer, who opposed the registration.

The fashion company sells a perfume under the name Chanel No.5.

With her business located at number five of Hahndorf's Main Street, owner Alison Peck said she could have challenged Chanel's arguments, but instead decided to redesign her logo.

"I've updated it and actually I'm a lot happier with it," Ms Peck told the ABC on Thursday.

"I thought rather than suffer a long drawn-out legal battle, which I can't afford financially, I'd just rather sort it out and do it."

However, Ms Peck said she had refused to comply with other demands from Chanel, including an undertaking to change her business name if she ever moved premises and limitations on the use of the word "five".
