Fire bans across South Australia

Total fire bans have been declared for most of South Australia as high temperatures return to the state.

Severe ratings are in place on Saturday for the fire ban districts of Northwest Pastoral, West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East.

The CFS says very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted for the districts and recommends that people implement their bushfire survival plans.

State co-ordinator Brenton Eden has urged South Australians to postpone any activity that might spark a fire.

"Simple things, like mowing grass over rocky, dry ground, vehicle exhausts, using an angle grinder, campfires and barbecues - even the simple act of using an electric drill in the wrong place - might just provide that spark which could be catastrophic," he said on Friday.

"We only need look to Western Australia to see how the warmer weather, lightning storms and strong winds have contributed to the raging bushfires in that state's southwest, where more than 60,000 hectares have been burnt."
