Scrap metal fire contained in Adelaide

A fire involving up to 100 crushed vehicles at a scrap metal business in Adelaide's north has been brought under control.

About 70 firefighters remain at the scene at Wingfield and continue to battle the blaze which is expected to burn for several hours.

The Metropolitan Fire Service says there are a number of gas cylinders on the premises which pose a safety risk.

Locals have been urged stay indoors because of the smoke which is considered toxic.
